Tems Redefines Global Footprint With Children of Blood and Bone
Grammy-winning Nigerian singer Tems has landed another landmark Hollywood role after being named Executive Music Producer and Curator of the official soundtrack for Paramount Pictures’ upcoming fantasy epic “Children of Blood and Bone,” further cementing her growing influence within global entertainment as one of the most anticipated films of 2027 approaches its theatrical release.
The announcement was made during the film’s trailer launch event at the Brooklyn Academy of Music in New York City, where director Gina Prince-Bythewood revealed that Tems would oversee the film’s musical direction and personally contribute three brand-new original songs to the project. The event, emceed by Emmy Award-winning writer and producer Lena Waithe, confirmed Tems as the first woman to executive produce a movie soundtrack at this scale, a milestone Prince-Bythewood highlighted as reflecting the depth of trust placed in the singer’s creative vision.
Tems will not be the only major Nigerian music export shaping the film’s sound. Prince-Bythewood also revealed that fellow Grammy winner Burna Boy has joined the production as executive music consultant, working alongside Tems to help define the soundtrack’s overall musical identity. The pair previously collaborated on the acclaimed soundtrack for Marvel Studios’ “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.” Rounding out the soundtrack’s roster of contributing artists are Fireboy DML, BNXN, and Ayra Starr, the latter of whom is also making her Hollywood acting debut in the film itself.
Based on Tomi Adeyemi’s bestselling novel of the same name, “Children of Blood and Bone” is a fantasy epic inspired by West African mythology and Yoruba culture, following characters navigating the fictional kingdom of Orïsha. The film’s official teaser trailer, unveiled at the same event, was heavily anchored by Tems’s chart-topping single “Me & U,” setting the sonic tone for the world the film aims to bring to the screen. Describing the finished soundtrack, Prince-Bythewood praised its cohesion, noting that Tems, despite having never executive produced a soundtrack before, delivered a project she considered genuinely extraordinary from start to finish.
The soundtrack’s assembly of some of Nigeria’s biggest contemporary music stars is expected to significantly boost the film’s international appeal, further reinforcing Afrobeats’ expanding footprint within major global entertainment productions. Industry observers have noted that the integration of these artists directly into the creative architecture of a major Hollywood release reflects the genre’s continued rise from a niche international market to a central driver of global pop culture.
“Children of Blood and Bone” is scheduled for worldwide theatrical release on January 15, 2027, with its soundtrack already being positioned as one of the standout musical projects tied to a major film release this year.
